AdZU Rolls Out Data Privacy Awareness Seminars for Employees
Stepping towards our vision of total human security, AdZU rolls out a series of Data Privacy awareness seminars for employees this month. Spearheaded by the University Data Protection Office (DPO) the online and onsite seminars started after the recent release of the University Data Privacy Management Program and the Data Privacy Manual.
Headed by University Data Protection Officer Fr Richard V Ella, SJ, the face-to face batches were conducted last November 9 & 16, 2022, from 8 AM to 12 NN at the AdZU Lantaka Campus. Online seminars were also made available.
The privacy awareness seminars detailed the importance of the Data Privacy Act of 2012, explaining the major elements of the University Data Privacy Program and Privacy Manual, as well as discussing some of the major data privacy issues in society especially those affecting the academic sector.
As stated in the Data Privacy Management Program of the school, it is our vision to “instill a privacy culture in our day to day operations” and a seminar such as this is an important step towards achieving such goal.
After the round of data privacy awareness seminars have been conducted for the AdZU community, the university envisions to conduct the Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) among the university personnel in charge of data processing. This step is an essential element in the compliance framework of the National Privacy Commission (NPC), the main government agency tasked to monitor the compliance of all concerned sectors to this law.
