By Romeo Rabajante, CSIT Information Officer

In celebration of the budding regional cinema landscape, AdZU hosts this year’s Festival de Cine Paz Mindanao last December 2-5, 2019 at Lantaka Campus.

Festival de Cine Paz Mindanao is a national film festival that showcases the different stories of peace from Mindanao. It aims to strengthen the vision of sustaining the journey for peace through the cinematic medium.

This year, the festival gives tribute to the rising voices of the south in La Bella Mindanao (Mindanao Short Film Competition); celebrates the diversity of Mindanao in Pluma de Paz (Philippine Short Film Competition); and lends voices to the LGBTQ+ community in Bloom: Pluma de Las Rosas.

The festival also had a series of workshops given by some of the biggest names in the Philippine film industry such as Tito Valiente, former president of Gawad Urian, Ditsi Carolino, International Filipino Documentary Filmmaker, and Ed Cabagnot, Cinemalaya film critic, among others.

Ryanne Murcia, an AdZU faculty and award-winning artist, serves as Festival Director who spearheaded the event along with Hombrella Pictures, Joint Task Force Zamboanga, Peace Advocates Zamboanga, Zamboanga-Basilan Integrated Development Alliance Inc (ZABIDA).

The festival received the full support from Film Development Council of the Philippines, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Sandaan, Zamboanga City local government unit, Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, Manos Unidas, Mindanao Week of Peace, Della Solare, Dennis Coffee Garden, and Dennis Coffee Express.
